Description Glenn Alexander 2003-05-11 04:52:09 UTC
Version: 3.0 (using KDE KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages

I'd like to see kview able to display mng images (even if only the first frame!) both in itself, and embedded in the file manager. And a kfm preview plugin for mng would be nice too!
Comment 1 Brad Hards 2004-02-01 02:40:07 UTC
It appears that this has been fixed - I can view the samples that I tried from http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/mngpics.html

This is with a pretty recent KDE though - perhaps you need to upgrade to 3.2 when Debian gets it (maybe in unstable?).

Otherwise, can you provide a link to an image that doesn't work?

We do still need to do a kfile_plugin for the metadata at some stage. Any particular data you need?

kview an now shows it (great work!), but no preview in kfm yet. (KDE 3.2.2).

I don't understand why you are still having a problem - it should be fine.

What image are you trying to show? Can you share it with us?

How large is the image?

Is this in a directory by itself?

What settings do you have in Configure Konqueror (especially Behaviour tab - is "Show Previews in file tips" on?, and Previews and Meta-data - what file size do you have selected, and do you have "use thumbnails embedded in files" on?)

See the second attached file 'snapshot1.png'

I attached one. Saved from Gimp2.0. Embedded Kview shows it fine.

Well under the filisize threshold I have set (2M)

> Is this in a directory by itself?

No, it is in a directory with a bunch of PNGs and animated GIFs (all
of which produce thumbnail icons fine).

Yes

Max size is 2MB (the test file is 24.1k)

> and do you have "use thumbnails embedded in files" on?)

No, I didn't. But turning it on made no difference

I can't find a setting to turn MNG image thumbnailing on explicitly. I
can't find a filetype-by-filetype configuration option at all for KFM.
The closest thing I could find is the KDesktop config in which I have
made sure 'show icon previews for: images' is switched on. Test MNG
doesn't icon preview on the desktop either.

Currently using KDE 3.3.2 from Debian/testing.

Glenn

Can you please try to attach the sample file again? Or just mail it to me?
Comment 6 Brad Hards 2004-05-19 10:55:05 UTC
OK, I'm seeing the problem on a Fedora core box with 3.2.2, but not on my devel box (which is basically the same configuration, except for KDE). Maybe its the kfile_plugin I have.

Maybe I need to clean up the kfile_plugin and add it.

This is definitely working in KDE 3.4
