Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1) Installed from: Unlisted Binary Package Hi, (after a 5 min fight with the wizard I eventually arrived here... grmbl) I found 2 problems with gif images, and I file them in one bug as both are gif handling issues. First, this animated image: http://www.mind.lu/~yg/shared/santa_en_apuros.gif (48kB) is using 100%cpu on my Athlon 2200 while being displayed in konq, and I think this is not normal. Second, this image: http://www.mind.lu/~yg/shared/plan.gif (1.8MB) takes approx 1 minute to load in konq with cpuload jumping around like crazy, and big mem and eventually filling 80% of my 256 MB swap (I have 256 MB RAM) Once loaded it shows correctly. I use 3.1-rc from texstars rpms (with qt3.1.1, idem texstar). regards, yg
I get very slow loading and large memory usage also when using konqueror to view large JPEGs and GIFs. Example: http://www.famousbabes.com/pics119/elishaC/elishaC018.jpg - takes over a minute to load on my system (PIII-450, 384MB RAM, TNT2-16MB). Most of the CPU usage seems to be in XFree86 (version 4.2.0), but Mozilla (for example) loads the image very quickly. Possibly this is related to Bug 55643 - KDE allocating pixmaps the size of the image. And Bug 29420 - which relates to large JPEGs taking up massive amounts of RAM on Konqueror embedded.
I can confirm, actually opening a dozen large jpg/png/gif images in own tabs each is one of the very rare cases where I can significantly slow down the GUI response within KDE on a AthlonXP 2000+, 768MB RAM, GF2MT even after loading. This is pretty amazing considering the same pictures embedded in html pages work smooth (serious problem with kpart for pictures?).
is this a duplicate of bug #29963 ??
