Description Jay 2003-04-07 23:46:08 UTC
Version: 1.1 (using KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: Gentoo
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-gentoo-r2

I right-click on Kicker, say Add Program ( or whatever its called in english ), Public Fileserver and Kicker allocates the space for the applet but the applet does not appear. Nor does it react to right clicking the space where the applet should be. The applet-grabber is there, tough. When I xkill kicker and restart it through minicli, the applet shows up ( but all systray icons are gone ).

Can you check you ~/.xsession-errors about possible problems with appletproxy?

Subject: Re: kicker applets don't show up when added

This is what the file says when I add a new applet:

kicker: WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
\x08
  Major opcode: *

hrm... sounds like an issue with kpf not liking the applet-proxy, or the applet-proxy not
embedding the correct window with kpf? will have to investigate further.....

I'm experiencing this problem, too, with KDE 3.1.3. Here's the message from
~/.xsession-errors

kicker: WARNING: KDE detected X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
\x08
  Major opcode: *

The applet is almost "there". When I move the mouse cursor over the place
where the applet is supposed to be, the applet's handle (but nothing else) is
shown. That way I can move and remove the applet, but no other interaction is
possible. Clicks in the place where the applet icon is supposed to show go
through to the panel.

It works for me with XFree 4.3.0 and KDE from CVS. All the applets I added were shown in the kicker correctly.
Comment 6 Dima Ryazanov 2004-10-06 03:54:20 UTC
I'm having the same problem with KDE 3.3...
Not sure how I broke it. I added a small child panel at the top with KNewsTicker. Later, I removed the KNewsTicker because it seemed to be freezing the kicker, and I realized I could not add any more applets. However, they show up after I kill the kicker and run it again.
I will try to clean up settings until the problem disappears, so I'll know where it's coming from...

Also, in .xsession-errors, I see:
appletproxy: ERROR: Failed to dock into the panel.
