Description Martijn Klingens 2003-03-26 19:56:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

It would be nice to have the ability to convert old mbox folders to maildir from within KMail's GUI. I still have some mbox folders lying around from the time that KMail didn't support maildir and the work associated with manually converting is a bit tiring and error-prone - in other words exactly what the computer could ideally do for me ;-)

What I did now for the folders with little or no filter rules is the following:

1. Rename the old mbox folder Foo to Bar.
2. Create a new maildir folder Foo.
3. Change the mail filters to point to the new folder.
4. Move the mails from Bar to Foo.
5. Remove the now-obsolete Bar folder.

Step 3 is the one that kept me from moving e.g. kde-cvs and some others as it's a rather tiring business to change all filters.

From within KMail itself it should probably not too hard to automate the above steps though, I figure all infrastructure is already there. As for the GUI - the Properties dialog is a natural choice as it already has the mailbox type combo box, but has it disabled now if you're not creating a new folder.

Not a high prio thing, but definitely a longer-standing wish of mine. Thanks in advance!

Martijn
