Description Bernhard Vornefeld 2003-03-25 22:33:29 UTC
Version: 3.1.0 (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 3.2
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.19-4GB

Metadata are getting more and more important to retrieve previously stored data.
IPTC is a metadata standard widely used in professional imaging. The metadata can be embedded in an few pixel based file types (e.g. TIFF, JPEG).
Manipulation of metadata information should not involve recoding of bitmaps (quality loss).
Dublin Core/RDF is a vocabulary associated with bibliographic information and part of the WWW Consortium's metadata framework.

KDE should be enabled to acess (read, write, convert and store) different types of metadata.
A database/cache should store metadata and other file info for faster retrieval of documents.
Suitable research tools (e.g. desktop search engine) should be developed.

Documents that are enriched with metadata, annotations, processing information etc. may be stored using a sort of document package format (dpf). This dpf could contain "dependency information" as well.

All reports about file management mode reported against KDE 3 (konqueror) has been closed: konqueror in KDE 3 is no more developed and mantained. All bugs and wishes which could be interesting for Dolphin in KDE 4 (the new KDE file manager) has been collected into a specific list.

Please try the new file manager before request new features and report bugs.

Before submitting new reports check carefully the already opened KDE/Dolphin reports in order not to add duplicates.

Many thanks.
