Description Jason Keirstead 2003-03-14 06:52:28 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources

When the text for a window's caption is too long to fully display in the titlebar, it would be nice if a tooltip was available that showed the full caption, probably inside a <qt> tag so that it word wraps well. (i.e., the identitcal tooltip that is displayed in the kicker when you hover over the taksbar entry)

It would also be very nice if there were again the option that was in KDE 1.x to scroll the titlebar
contents back and forth if the title were too long. This is something I've missed for a
loooooooooooooong time.

so, you mouse over the window title, and if the title is too long, it shows a tooltip, but where would you put it (the tooltip) ?
Comment 4 Jason Keirstead 2004-05-13 17:46:32 UTC
What do you mean? It would follow the same rules as any QTooltip... above the titlebar if possible, if there is not space ( if window is maximized ) below it

There is no restriction that tooltips for a particular window have to be rendered inside that window, if that is what you're implying. Just try mousing over a toolbar button at the far right edge of the window, it will extend beyond the window border.

The requested feature needs to be implemented by the specific window
decoration. KWin core supports the required functionality. Unfortunately the
KWin development team does not develop or maintain the specific window
decorations.

Because of that the KWin development team is not able to implement this feature
request. Given that KWin core supports the functionality the request is a
WORKSFORME from the KWin point of view.

We want to thank you for the feature request and are sorry that this request
has been open for such a long time without getting implemented.
