Description Patrick Fromberg 2003-03-02 19:05:26 UTC
Version: kdemultimedia3-devel-3.1-62 (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc-2.95.3-216
OS: Linux

I have updated to machines to kde3.1. On machine1 everything works fine. On machine2 kboodle and noatun will not play anything. Calling noatun from the command line (with file argument) will tell something about an overridden SIG_PIPE, but this seems normal and does not prevent noatun to play on machine1. Clicking the Play button will make noatun anwer "Stopped".

Strangly, if I open a file with noatuns file->open dialog, no files will be displayed at all! Same with kaboodle.

I created a new user to see, if kde user specific settings are broken. But this was not the case. I also deleted .kde/share/noatunrc.

I reinstalled kdemultimedia3 packages to see, if a direct requrement is not met. The initial installation was with rpm --nodeps of course as there is just no other realistical option (really a pitty)

machine1 and 2 have exactly the same package versions, but machine1 has much more packages. Regarding kde31 packages, the machines dont defer. I am really clueless what this can be. I have been searching the whole day for this.

More exactly, regarding the file-open dialog: The files will not show in the list.

your artsd is missing mpeglib_artsplug and probably some more decoders, the fileselector only
shows files supported by artsd (noatun is just a frontend to artsd which does all the hard work).

mpeglib_argsplug is indeed missing, if this is a library. But it is also missing
on the machine, that works fine. There is a directory of that name as part of
kdemultimedia3, which I have installed.

Renstalling arts and kdemultimeida3 show no missing dependencies, but of course,
the RandomPackageManagement is not trusworthy. I also dont get unresolved
externals anywhere.

Can you give me an example package, that contains a decoder, so that I can
continue searching for the problem from there?

Thanks.

it'S in kdemultimedia. For sure this is not a problem of Noatun but caused by
bad packages.

Newer Packages dont show this error anymore
