Description Frans Englich 2003-02-19 21:11:18 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
Compiler: gcc 2.95.3
OS: Linux

NOTE: I am running KDE 3.0.1 but I have reported 3.1. (I have not the time to upgrade but I don't think this changed in 3.1 anyway)

1.
Does the icon in the taskbar have to blink. I find it rather stressing. I think it's enough with just having the triangle/play-sign shown. There's sound coming from the speakers so the user is probably aware that he is playing. It removes focus from the rest.

2.
*.pls is not associated with noatun in a fresh install. I think it should(perhaps some other supported fileformats is not binded to noatun either).

cheers,
Frans

Your first Item works fine here. Just use the configuration-tab of yung-hickory...

Using kde-multimedia from head, but i am pretty sure this option is also in kde3.1.

[don't know what yung-hickory but] What the default is matter alot. A
'regular' user dpn't know how to change it. If no-blink is generally
preferred that should be the default.

Purpose of blink: Notify the user that noatun is playing.

Isn't the user aware of that? And if he is unsure, he can look at the tray
and find a static, noblinking icon telling him that noatun is playing.
When it blinks it steals focus, no argue about that. Evolution has made sure
our eyes pays attention to anything abrupt or new in our viewing field. After
typing all day long it is rather wearing.

I see no argument what good it does, except looking cool perhaps. (feel free
to motivate). If we change it what will the users complaing about? - "Hey!
Why did you remove the blinking! I liked/needed it because ..."

(sorry, if I sound harsh)

cheers!

Please make the default to be not blinking
Comment 6 Stefan Gehn 2003-11-13 22:38:16 UTC
Changed default to showing instead of flashing in CVS HEAD.
