Description jonveit 2003-02-15 00:50:44 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-3.1 -O3, Specific for AMD
OS: Linux

For some reason, (this isn't how it started originally) every time I try to save a file, the window pops up asking me to save as..., open, or cancel. I click save as and instead of asking me what I would like to name the file as, it immediately begins downloading the file in my home directory with whatever the source name is. I don't remember fiddling with any kget options and if this just happens to be some feature i apologize but encourage the default not to be so, an easier way to figure to enable it so you can name the file you are saving and/or perhaps a just save button.

could it be you have the "Expert Mode" enabled? By default, it is disabled,
maybe you accidentally enabled it.

Hi,

I'd like an option to turn off the "auto-save" method in the download dialog. If Konq
asks for "Save as ... / Open / ..." etc. I would like the dialog to look something like

	----------------------------------------------
	Open File.zip with $APP?

	[Open] [Save As ...] [Cancel]

[X] don't ask for target directory
		on subsequent downloads
		(KGet expert mode)
	----------------------------------------------

Is this possible? Perhaps one could even integrate more KGet features into the dialog
(only if KGet is running of course!).

I have tried and confirmed that it is the result of turning on "Expert Mode".

However, on the line where "Expert Mode" can be chosen, it says "Don't prompt for cancel or delete".

So if I turn on Expert Mode, it also skip asking where I want to save the file. (i.e. turning "Save As" into "Save"). It is unexpected behavior - whether Expert Mode is on or off should not have an effect on the behavior of "Save As".

I agree with the previous comment.
KGet should only automatically use the previous folder if "Use-Last-Folder Mode" is enabled, not when Expert mode is enabled.

P.S.
The option "Use-Last-Folder" seems to be missing from the configuration dialog. I can't find it on both the 'Advanced' and 'Folders' tabs.
IMHO the Advanced tab would be the logical place to include it.

(My version of KGet is 0.8.4 from KDE 3.2.3)

I agree that expert mode should:
1. be more defined in the help.
2. not block a save as box from popping up in expert mode.
3. have the option for save to previous location, when activly integrated. ( 3 is more of a sepreate issue brought up by dicussion here, since it would be removing functionality that people may like)

I agree, that one really drives me nuts. I couldn't find a switch for "Don't show Save As dialog" and how should one know that expert mode means not asking where to save files? This would definitly be an usability enhancement.

Fixed in KDE4-trunk, b/c there's no Expert-Mode anymore :-)
