Description Pascal Cavy 2003-02-10 13:11:13 UTC
Version: inconnu (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: Mandrake Linux Cooker i586 - Cooker
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.1 (Mandrake Linux 9.1 3.2.1-6mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.21pre4-1mdkenterprise

I have submitted on mandrake bugzilla the following :
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=686

artsd is crashing after some time while listening with noatun to "chillout 2 new york" channel for example on www.live365.com.

This does nos happen with either xmms or kaboodle.

- you must register to listen to this (free registration)
- I use mozilla or konqueror (latest)
- use a stream for DSL connexion
- launch /usr/bin/noatun when mozilla ask for it

artsd is started by kde with:

/usr/bin/artsd -F 10 -S 4096 -a alsa -d -s 60 -m artsmessage -l 0 -f

my sound driver is snd-intel8x0 (alsa)

(gdb) info program
Using the running image of child Thread 16386 (LWP 2814).
Program stopped at 0x7.
It stopped with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

I have a core dump available.

The crash might be related to other sound events happening during the stream play...

KDE Version 2.2.1 (KDE 3.1.1)
Application Media Player
Operating System Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-0.18mm-mdksmp
Compiler gcc version 3.2.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.2 3.2.2-5mdk)

bug still valid

So aRts crashes if you listen to this stream using noatun. It doesn't crash using kaboodle?

Then its a noatun bug since its independent from aRts.

BTW: Did you use xmms with aRts-plugin or with oss?

I'll have to check again with kaboodle.

I use xmms with arts-plugin, yes.

It's strange that only noatun makes artsd crash. As I said, it is not
immediate, you can sometimes listen to the stream for an hour
before noatun suddenly stops. Then If I click on the noatun play
button, a window pops up complaining there is no sound server,
the sound server is restarted auto and the stream plays again.

If kaboodle crashes too, its a problem in aRts in the PlayObject since xmms does its own
decompression. Is the stream mp3 or ogg?

Comment 5 Pascal Cavy 2003-04-24 17:01:45 UTC
problem is kaboodle does not handle x-scpls mimetype in streaming mode
Comment 6 Pascal Cavy 2003-04-24 17:02:28 UTC
the stream is mp3

Arts is no longer developed and has been unmaintained for quite some time - more than 2 years. With phonon as the replacement for arts in KDE4, we're closing out all the arts bugs in Bugzilla since there is no chance of them being fixed.

Thanks
