Description newsscott 2003-02-01 13:17:59 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1)
Installed from: Debian stable Packages
OS: Linux

How to reproduce:

1. Open a KDE file selctor (File/Open... i used that one of konqueror)
2. Go to /usr/share/wallpapers
3. Select the first file of the list (in my case that is 'All-Good-People-1.jpg')
4. Now use the cursor down key to move throuh the list.

On my system, the following file won't be selected:

Blkmarble.jpg
No-Ones-Laughing-3.jpg
triplegears.jpg

5. If you reached the last entry of the list, use cursor up key to move throuh the list backwards:

No, the follownig files won't be selected:

No-Ones-Laughing-3.jpg
Chicken-Songs-2.jpg

It's likely that the error will only occour if the same files are available on your systems. So here's a list of all files under my /usr/share/wallpapers:

I am seeing almost the same - I get different missed files when moving backwards up
the list.

It doesn't matter if automatic preview is selected or not.

Yes, I know about this problem -- it's a bug in QIconView, which is hopefully to
be fixed in the next Qt release.
Comment 3 David Morel 2003-02-11 20:29:54 UTC
Looks to me like it's a case problem: filenames are sorted whatever case they are, but the
keyboard arrows select capitals first, if you know what i mean

No, unfortunately not that easy. The iconview doesn't know about rows or
columns and tries to find the "nearest" item. This obviously finds wrong
items in some cases. I'm discussing this with TrollTech, but we haven't found
a satisfiable solution, yet.
