Description yann 2003-01-28 18:32:34 UTC
Version: inconnu (using KDE 3.1.0)
Installed from: (3.0)
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.4 20011002 (Debian prerelease)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-686

KDM crashes if I switch to a console (Ctrl + Alt + Fn) while desktop is starting. Reproductible with KDE 3.1.
That was OK with 3.0.5 and KDE 2.

Packages from http://ktown.kde.org/~nolden/kde/woody/i386/ (Debian Woody).

somehow i think that this is an X server problem. which hardware + driver do you
use?

Comment 2 yann 2003-01-28 23:34:18 UTC
It's a HP XAs workstation with a ATI card. I never had this problem before with KDE
3.0.5 (Debian) or KDE 2 (SuSE).

do you use the driver from xfree or the one from ati? does it work if you switch?

Comment 4 Oswald Buddenhagen 2003-04-02 16:41:32 UTC
no reply == no bug ;-)
i think this is a bug in the x-server. ati released a closed-source driver some time
ago, which doesn't have a much better reputation than the one from nvidia - maybe
the submitter used it.

Subject: Re: kdm crash while logging

Hi,

I didn't have the time to check further, but I use only free software from
Debian. So no closed source driver from anywhere.

Yann
