Description Jesper Juhl 2003-01-09 00:18:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.99)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc 2.95.3
OS: Linux

Version: KDE3.1rc6 (using QT 3.1.1 on Slackware Linux 8.1)

Current behaviour in KDE3.1rc6:
-----

If I start entering text into a text input field on a web page and then move the mouse cursor over a form button or a link on the page (just hovering is enough) the input field I'm typing into loses focus and I can't continue typing text into it.

The expected behaviour:
-----

When moving the mouse over a form button or a link the button or link should get highlighted (or some other indicatioon that the mouse is hovering over it), but the input field should *not* loose it's input focus, and continued typing in the field should be possible.
This was the actual behaviour in the KDE Beta's and rc3 and rc5 (didn't try the others) as well as previous KDE releases.

The problem:
-----

This current behaviour is very frustrating since you have to carefully maneuvre the mouse pointer through the konqueror window if you want to move it somewhere else but want to keep input focus on the input field.
Useability wise this new behaviour is IMHO a major step backwards.

A place to test:
-----

This happens concistently on all pages I usually visit, but just in case the reader of this bug-report is not visiting the same pages as I am, here's a link to one of those pages : http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph

To reproduce, do this:

1) Go to that page and click once in the input field in the top left corner of the page (keep the mouse over the input field).

2) enter a few characters of text like "foo" (don't move the mouse yet).

3) now move the mouse down to hover over the "Examine" button just below the input field.

4) try entering a few more characters like "bar". the characters don't sho up in the input field as it has lost input focus.

you can try the same with one of the links on the page instead of the button in step 3, the behaviour is identical.
Also, moving the mouse away from the button or link you where hovering over does not restore input focus to the input field - the only way to restore input focus is to click the input field again (or use the TAB key).

In my oppinion, this should be fixed before the final release of KDE 3.1 since it's very annoying and confusing behaviour (especially so since it's completely different to how any previous release of KDE/Konqueror has ever worked - to my knowledge at least).

Best regards,
