Version: 1.5 (using KDE 3.1.0 (RC5)) Installed from: compiled sources Compiler: gcc version 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-7) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-14 on occasion a blank message will appear in my outbox. by blank i mean no suject, no message body, no recipient, no nothing...=) along with the blank message in the outbox, there will also be some already sent messages. i don't think this hinders any of kmail's functionally and i just delete them, but it sure is strange behavior... thanks, christopher
Is the outbox an mbox or a maildir folder. To find out check whether ~/Mail/outbox is a file or a directory. This problem could be caused by unclean shutdowns of KMail (i.e. after a crash).
Subject: Re: blank message and some sent messages appear in outbox for no reason it is a maildir. all my folders are maildirs now. being maildirs fixed that problem that i have corresponded with you so much about before (the one about indexes being out of date)...=) anyways, back to the current issue. yes, kmail has been shutdown improperly many times for various reasons. i'm looking at kmail now...sure enough in my outbox are 3 messages, 2 that i know have already been sent properly, and one 'blank' one. kmail was shutdown properly before it was started up this session. thanks, christopher On Friday 20 December 2002 06:35 am, Ingo "Klcker" wrote: > ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- > You reported the bug, or are watching the reporter. > > http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52129 > > > > > ------- Additional Comments From kloecker@kde.org 2002-12-20 13:35 ------- > Is the outbox an mbox or a maildir folder. I have this same problem. KMail 1.5 (Using KDE 3.0.99 (KDE 3.1 RC3)) I also notice this behavior: The first message in this state appears empty, and then as I click other messages (that are probably bogus), they change their displayed information from having real subjects, to/from, etc. to being blank as well. This stops when I get to a non-bogus message.
I'm having this problem with the CVS HEAD version of kmail (22/9/03). Every time I send a message I seem to end up with a blank message in the Outbox. I have a Maildir format message store, am using an IMAP server and an SMTP server to send mail.
Subject: Re: blank message and some sent messages appear in outbox for no reason Hi Ben, Would you be able to experiment a bit to work out what exactly it is you're doing to cause this problem to occur. The rest of us are having problems reproducing it at will, so if you've discovered how to do so, even accidentally, it would be great if you could tell the rest of us what the trick is. Don.

This problem still persists. I have kmail in my startup programs under Gnome / Red Hat Fedora Core 1 (Yarrow). And I usually exit the desktop while the program is still running. Unless I *close* kmail before exiting the desktop, the next time it runs (on login) there are numerous "no subject" phantom messages in *all* folders (incoming, outgoing, drafts, trash). versions: kdenetwork-3.1.4-1, kmail 1.5.4 Also refer to Red Hat Bugzilla report here: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=102532
re: Comments #7, #8 ... my apologies. I inadvertently applied "commit" twice to the same comment. If possible, kindly expunge the latter (#8).
I have kmail in my Gnome startup folder in Red Hat Fedora Core Release 1 (Yarrow). The program is still running when I exit the desktop and (do a CLEAN) reboot or shutdown. However, there are times when the program (or desktop) may lockup, and I exit using CTRL-ALT-BKSPC. I wonder if this is what contributes to kmail creating the "phantom" messages? Usually I exit the system *cleanly*, either selecting reboot, or shutdown. Nevertheless, when kmail restarts, I still have numerous "phantom" messages. These show subject headings of messages that have been already read and deleted. However, clicking on these phantom messages show "no subject" as the headers, and one is obliged to expunge these. Also, if there are mails in the queue, they cannot be sent out, until these phantoms are removed from the outmail box.
