Description Marlon Rodriguez 2002-12-10 18:07:37 UTC
Version: Kdev 2.2.1 I think...err the one with Red Hat 8.0 (using KDE KDE 1.2)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: Red Hat 8.0 didnt touch the source I just used the installation that came with the OS
OS: Linux

when I use the setup for the doc indexer it finds the files but even though I chosed it with tiny size it takes a long time to do it...I did it about 48 hours ago and it's still doing it. Dont know if it's in a loop or what cuz I cant even look at it since it's using all the cpu time and it wont even show anything. I tried it several times before but ended up frustrated and then reseting the pc. This time I just left it doing it and checked once every morning for two days. It keeps going...or it seems to since it wont let almost any cpu time for the GUI. I'm going to let it run nonetheless for another day see what happens. I'm running it in an old PII 452mghz with 256megs of mem. I'm running Red Hat 8 Desktop. I just had a thought...what happens if it runs out of space while making the index?? Will that do it?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe you have recoursive symlinks somewhere? This looks like a very Red Hat
specific problem, I fear you have to live without indexed documentation...

I hade the same problem using htdig as the indexing engine.I found a copy of
glimpse and glimpseindex and used it as the indexing agent and it completed in
about 3 min. I believe the problem lies with htdig and the redhat distro?
I am running RedHat 7.3 but should fix 8.0 also.
Glimpse package: glimpse-4.12.6.bin.Linux-2.2.5-22-i686.tar.gz
untar directory and then synlink both glimpse and glimpseindex into your bin
directory.

Thanks I also thought that was the solution but since I had it grayed out in
the options and I didnt have it handy/didnt know how to enable it I was
stuck with htdig. Thank you for the instructions I appreciate it. Could
you tell me where you found the copy. I will search for it but just in case
:o)

Since this seems to be Red Hat specific and shouldn't be a problem in KDevelop 3.0
please allow me to close the bug :)
