Description Pupeno 2002-12-06 17:29:19 UTC
Version:           0.5.8cvs >= 20021020 (using KDE 3.1.9)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2 (Mandrake Linux 9.0 3.2-1mdk)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.19-16mdk

I'd like to se an enhance managements of sound.
For example I apritiate the play sounds/not play sounds toogle that Psi has.
But I would take sound enhancement to a bit more, like, for an open chat, play or do not play for this chat. (Sometimes I'm intrested in being notify by other events, but when mainting a very active chat, it turns to be unberable) and anything else on this would be good as more fine graned it gets the better. :)
Thanks
PS: I don't know if this is posible, but a control volume for the Kopete sounds, specifically, would be good. I think this would be good for any application that uses sound, but I don't know if it's posible by now.

Basically what this bug wants is a toolbar button to disable notifications for that chat. Gaim has something like this.

Comment 2 Sean Lynch 2004-05-15 06:23:06 UTC
I too would like this. I think it would be very convenient to be able to enable/disable sounds per chat. For instance, I have sounds disabled when I am away, but there are some times where I will get a message while I'm away which I will want sounds (as I'm busy, but still want to know when I get a message from them, as I usually background their message after I read each message). Also, since I have my away up since I'm busy, I don't want to have to return from away just to hear sounds from that one conversation.

An icon on the toolbar of each conversation would be great. It would defaulted to on/off based on the "global" (aka, current) sound setting, then you could change it per conversation by clicking on the icon on the toolbar.

My "personal flavor" of this would be making it possible to play the sound only if the chat window in which the new message appears doesn't already have focus. This would be useful since it prevents the sound messages from getting too annoying in an agitated discussion. MSN Messenger implements sound events like this.

Sometimes though you walk away from your computer with the chat focuesed, waiting on a response, wouldn't make sense to have to unfocus the chat so you could get notified, imo.

Having it toggleable would allow you to make the decision when a chat should give you an audible alert and when it shouldn't.

Maybe disable sounds when getting focus and enabling them again when user changes status to something else than online?
Comment 6 Flávio Etrusco 2004-11-21 19:49:14 UTC
Geez, so many different tastes...
All I wanted is the sound to be played, for chats sessions already open, even when you're Away :)

It would be nice if you can just click on the kopete symbol in the taskbar to disable and enable sound or a global shortcut.
I quite often listen to music using my headphones and when the chatwindow has focus there is no sound (which is good) but when I am surfing the web while waiting for a reply I get this really loud notification.

I would request "Player Setting" like tab in Kopete Notifications, which is present in "System Sound Notifications", One can set the volume there. Just need to import the full code into kopete notifications (just a thought though) :)
Comment 9 edmundo_ba 2005-09-26 23:11:09 UTC
I would like the setting sound on/off for each chat window. But it would very nice a quick way to disable global sounds, like an entry in the tray icon menu.
Comment 10 Marten Seemann 2006-08-07 15:53:12 UTC
I agree with edmundo_ba (Comment #9), but sometimes I expect a message from people whom I didn't chat with just before. In addition to this suggestion, there should be the possibility to toggle sound on / off globally.

+1 to button for disabling sounds
+1 to mode "disable sounds when chat window is active"

Kopete from SVN trunk now distinguishes between events in the active chat window and others. This makes it possible to disable sounds in the active chat window but still play them for other incoming messages.
There's no mute (sound/events) functionality in chat windows though.

Just found the same "problem" in kopete from KDE 4.3.4 - any news? :-)
Comment 16 Christoph Cullmann 2024-09-18 18:26:41 UTC
Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
