I haven't tested this, surely this should happen already when the connection status plugin is enabled.
I can only tell for the Oscar protocol (and a possibly outdated kopete version 0.6.0-1 on debian unstable). It happens a lot of times to me that my connection gets disconnected, for two reasons 1) internet goes down for some time 2) I suspended the laptop while leaving kopete running and resumed it some time later. The effect is the same in both cases: kopete does not seem to react to the fact that it got disconnected, but keeps displaying the list of online buddies like before. Messages sent to any of these buddies disappear in nirvana, and my friends report that I am not visible online during that situation. It would be cool if kopete would reconnect automatically.
