Version: (using KDE KDE 1.2) Installed from: SuSE RPMs OS: Linux When printing from Kwrite the window shows a page number that is different from the actual number of pages in print. My printer hp 845c prints out the number that the kwrite shows but not the complete document. I have tried clicking 'all' and that didn't help, I have also tried clicking on a 'range' and entered numbers larger than the document [as I have no way of knowing how many pages are the correct number] and that didn't work either. I have also tried printing from the preview mode and that didn't work. This is very consistent. However it is most problematic [meaning worse] when I am using a serif font in the document.
This is in KDE 3.0.0 not 1.2 SuSE 8.0 personal it happens from within kword
When you "print to a PS file", and view the result with kghostview or gv, do you see the entire document? Michael.

Yes- and it prints the entire doc from here too- that's at least an easy workaround until thenewer version of KDE arrives. Thanks-j
When you print to your regular printer with preview enabled, do you see the whole document in the preview window, or are some parts/pages already missing? Michael.

In preview I could always see all the pages of the document- I even tried printing fromthat view and still did not get a complete document- the view doesn't look much differentfrom the one in the ps file either. j
OK, last test. Print to your regular printer with preview enabled. While previewing, there should be a temporary file called "kdeprint_XXXXXX" somewhere in your $HOME/.kde/tmp/ directory. This is the PS file you're currently viewing. Make a copy of that file (because it'll get deleted after previewing) and print it using the command-line tool "lpr". Do you get the whole document? Sorry for all these tests, but it looks more like a printer driver problem than a KDEPrint problem. I'm just trying to locate the actual cause. Michael.

From your description, I have the strong impression that this is a font size and/or page size problem. As if kwrite thought the page was bigger than the actual size, and "prints" text out of the printable area. > I hope this is explicit enough but go ahead ask away. > Please keep in mind that I am coming from a wintel situation and so the > only way I understand to find a file is to click find a file in the drop > down menu and then type in information if you wished me to do it another > way - you will have to be very explicit. The temporary file you have to search for is "kdeprint_XXXXXXXX" where all the 'X' are random characters. To look for those files use the command (in a terminal) "find ~/.kde/ -name kdeprint_\*". Michael.

I typed in exactly what you print above into a console [with root permissions] and no such file continues to be the result. I tried it about 9 times. You are sure that the file exists only when the preview window is open: it has been created by the app, and not sent yet to the printer. This is the only safe way to copy this temporary file: the fact that the preview window is open gives you time to search for and copy the file (actually until you close the preview window). > Re; your comment about page size or font size. If this is a font problem, then the fix is to be found in the app itself, and not in KDEPrint.

I just mean that the temporary file exists only when the preview window is visible. If you close it, then the file gets deleted. I've contacted kwrite developers and they'll check it. They told me they solved a lot of printing problems in the 3.1 release (out beginning of January), so it's possible that your problem is already fixed. Michael.

In the x terminal when I open it after giving the root password linux:/home/frybyte #find ~/.kde/ -name kdeprint_\* Which by the way I can't seem to paste from the clipboard directly into the xterminal Also the tilde looks wrong in the xterminal but I have been careful to make sure that I have typed it correctly the response I get? bash: find~/.kde/-name: no such file or directory the entire time I'm doing this the document is in preview and I'm looking at it. As you can see from the error message you got, all spaces have been removed. 2) don't do this as root. Indeed, the temporary file is located in the current user home directory, that's why I use "~/.kde/" as base search directory (the tilde stands for the user home dir). Now if you switch to root when searching, then the tilde will points you to root's home directory, not to the home dir of the user that has created the temporary file. In summary, do the search as the same user as the one that is trying to print the doc. Michael.

I was never able to resolve this 'bug' using KDE at all and ended up going over to the 'otherside' i.e. GNOME. I did have to do some shifting in CUPS to get GNOME printing to work but mostly all I did was respond to the questions. So I still don't know why this couldn't work- but alas I gave up.
