Description Gav Wood 2002-11-19 18:46:26 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.0.9)
Installed from:    Gentoo Packages

kmail's current icon set for the folder tree is unfortunately a bit dull and really quite unlike all the other icons in the crystal scheme.

icons to be needed would probably include:
* inbox
* outbox
* sent mail
* drafts
* local folders
* an imap mail host

and while you are at it.. the check mail in, reply, reply to all and farward icons are very
hard to distinguish.. try and get the usability team to write some comments on what
would be "intutive".. or at least what would look sufficiently different that ppl dont have to
learn which is where by counting their way.. just my two cent.. otherwise a great app.
thumbs up for that!

My current kmail from CVS (orth's Debian SID Packages) has been using
crystal like icons for some time now. I have uploaded a screenshot to
http://www.dreker.de/kmail.jpg .

Does that look better?

the server icon is better :-)

but the inbox icon is still rather flat and grey. two different inbox icons
for "new mail to read" and "no new mail" would be rather good, as would icons
for the various other types of mailbox (outbox, drafts, send mail etc.)

Indeed. The reporter ran KDE 3.0 and as you say, the crystal theme is
just fine.

I don't have time for maintaining the artwork entry at bugs.k.o
properly :( I would gladly pass the baton.

cheers,
Frans

No, this bug has not been fixed. The folder icons for
* inbox
* outbox
* sent mail
are still no crystal icons. They are mainly grey icons which look very different from crystal
icons. And that's what this bug report is about.

Progress! (se attachment)
But _my_ feeling is that they all look TO MUCH the same now.

Why do we have color displays? I once used a text terminal that
made all text greenish - I guess that was a color terminal :-)
Comment 7 Ismail Donmez 2003-09-02 14:50:53 UTC
New crystalsvg icons are on CVS. And now all kmail icons look similar to
others. Should we close this bug?
Comment 8 Gav Wood 2003-09-02 18:10:31 UTC
hmm, well they're a bit better :-), but tbh it just looks like someone has
used gimps "make image blue" function on the old icons.

where's the shading? where's the subtle grey outlines? the nice
translucency? the slight cartoony feel? :-)

imo they still look far too make like the old locolor icons for this bug to be
closed :-/

Comment 9 Tiago Freire 2003-09-02 18:32:10 UTC
I agree. the icons look simply blue-tinted. tell me where can I get the sources of the
images and how to send possible substitutions, I can find some time to send some
suggestions. I also think that the first comment is pertinent. the "Reply", "Reply to All"
and "Forward" icons look too much like each other. Should another bug be filed for
them, or they can be dealt with here? is it all right if I simlpy add some artwork as an
attachment in this bug?

I doubt that the sources of the old images still exist. And, yes, feel
free to add artwork as attachment to this bug report.

trashcan empty 16

All the trashcan images have absolutely 0% creativeness. they are the
crystalsvg scaleable icons exported by sodipodi. others will follow suit.
The trashcan could reflect its contents, don you think?

I know they are not quite the original subject of this bug, but I was researching on
previous artwork to take advantage of it and "gather inspiration and thematic
attunement", and found out that the trash icon does not look like a trash icon at all,
and is different from the trashcan. well, here it is. NOTE: there is no trash can for the
22 x 22 "filesystem" setting. How can this one be put there? I file another bug? Or the
"fixer" of this bug will do it?

*** Bug 54436 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 19 jsvrp.gw 2003-12-11 02:36:18 UTC
To my opinion this bug can be CLOSED, because kmail 1.5.94 does have now default kde icons.
Comment 20 Ismail Donmez 2003-12-11 11:26:32 UTC
No for example "Reply to Mailing List" icon is still old.
Comment 21 Kenneth Wimer 2004-01-20 17:13:59 UTC
Kmail has new icons. This bug is fixed
