Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.4) Installed from: RedHat RPMs OS: Linux Add a way to manage the context menus. The non-technical user should have a way to graphically edit/add/remove/disable the right click context menus that are in $KDEDIR/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/ Requests have been made to add this or that context menu, but were rejected becuase it 1) the KDE developers did not want the menus cluttered and 2) it was trivial for the user to add an entry to the servicemenus dir. This approach is beneficial since the average nontechnical desktop user will not know that they can add an entry themselves; Also, the context menus would be as cluttered or noncluttered as the *user* desires. Keep up the great work!
Agreed, it would be very benneficial to be able to rearange the context menus. I recently had a need for this myself - I ran KAppfinder and it added a nice "Enqueue in XMMS" item to my context menu, so now when I right-click a .mp3 file I can select "Open with"->"Enque in XMMS", but I would like to move this out of the "Open with" submenu (since I use it a lot), and a graphical utility to be able to do this would be extremely nice.
I think avoiding the clutter and having a graphical interface to manage service menus are two separate parts. For the moment, context menus seem to be configurable only by recompiling konqueror (correct me if I missed a configuration file for popups). The first step is to adapt context menus to be customizable (which they don't seem to be currently), even it it implies editing some text files. I filed a bug more specific about that: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66119
This is a duplicated bug, but the duplicate is a much better report. Use bug 66119 as the new wishlist item and mark this bug as wontfix.
66119 is not a dupe of this bug report. this BR is about servicemenus, not context menus in general.
This would be a welcome improvement to Dolphin, and add some real usability. Note that Mozilla applications have the Menu Editor addon that provides the option to edit the context menus. It makes using the applications much less stressful.
