Version: Qt: 3.0.5 KDE: 3.0.4 Konsole: 1.1.3 (using KDE KDE 3.0.4) Installed from: Compiled From Sources Compiler: Configured with: ../gcc-3.2/configure --with-stabs --enable-threads --with-cpu=i686 Thread model: posix gcc version 3.2 OS: Linux This applies to kde 3/1beta1 as well. I will be happy to help track down this problem if you can give me some idea of where to start. I have a MSI G4MX400 video card that uses a Nvidia g-force4 MX440 chip set and has 64 Megs of RAM as well as an output for a second monitor. I have configured Xwindows 4.2 using the Nvidia drivers downloaded from their web site. Nividia calls the xinerama mode "twinview". Note: if I turn off twinview, I can start several instances of konsole. All KDE 3.0.4 has been compiled with xinerama support and QT 3.0.5 has been compiled with threading support. I am able to start several instances of all kde apps except konsole. After starting one instance of konsole, an attempt to start a second instance causes it to load and the window flashes quickly on the desktop before dying. I tried starting a second instance from the command line in the hope that it would display some messages but nothing. A look at .xsession-errors shows the following: kio_pop3: POP3Protocol::~POP3Protocol() kdeinit: PID 361 terminated. DCOP: register 'konsole-364' -> number of clients is now 10 DCOP: unregister 'konsole-364' A log of the final startup of X shows: (note there are no errors and X would log any if there were even if they occur later on) (II) NVIDIA(0): AGP 2X successfully initialized (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1792x1344,1152x864" (II) NVIDIA(0): Using XFree86 Acceleration Architecture (XAA) Screen to screen bit blits Solid filled rectangles Solid filled trapezoids 8x8 mono pattern filled rectangles 8x8 mono pattern filled trapezoids Indirect CPU to Screen color expansion Solid Lines Scanline Image Writes Offscreen Pixmaps Driver provided FillSolidRects replacement Driver provided FillSolidSpans replacement Driver provided FillMono8x8PatternRects replacement Driver provided WritePixmap replacement Driver provided ReadPixmap replacement Setting up tile and stipple cache: 30 128x128 slots 7 256x256 slots (==) NVIDIA(0): Backing store disabled (==) NVIDIA(0): Silken mouse enabled (**) Option "dpms" (**) NVIDIA(0): DPMS enabled (II) Loading extension NV-GLX (II) Loading extension NV-CONTROL (II) Loading extension XINERAMA (II) Initializing built-in extension MIT-SHM (II) Initializing built-in extension XInputExtension (II) Initializing built-in extension XTEST (II) Initializing built-in extension XKEYBOARD (II) Initializing built-in extension LBX (II) Initializing built-in extension XC-APPGROUP (II) Initializing built-in extension SECURITY (II) Initializing built-in extension XINERAMA (II) Initializing built-in extension XFree86-Bigfont (II) Initializing built-in extension RENDER (II) [GLX]: Calling GlxExtensionInit (**) Option "Protocol" "PS/2" (**) Mouse1: Protocol: "PS/2" (**) Option "CorePointer" (**) Mouse1: Core Pointer (**) Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" (==) Mouse1: Buttons: 3 (II) Keyboard "Keyboard1" handled by legacy driver (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
Note Kate also exhibits this behavior. All the koffice apps allow more than one instance and work fine.
Please do a few things for me: Test with the latest NV drivers. Run from the command line so you can see what it prints out before it disappears, and if it crashes or not. Try upgrading your compiler. I don't use twinview, but I don't see this on non-twinview Xinerama.
No response, works for me. Please try to get more details about what exactly is happening if you need to reopen. I dont' know what this could have to do with Xinerama anyways.
