the default configure option should be "--enable-debug=yes", indeed, it adds debugging info to the application, it can't be debug without that.

what about two default configurations? "debug" and "optimized"

Implemented in all C/C++ autoproject project templates. 
 
You are strongly advised to update to the latest CVS version of KDevelop3 code 
name gideon, take a look at:

Please use the CVS version and compile it yourself because that way you can 
easily patch it if a bug is found. 
 
P.S. : The KDevelop team closed over 107 reported and confirmed bugs since the 
release of KDevelop3.0 Alpha 4a 
The bad news is that KDevelop3 currently has 113 reported bugs :(
