When one uses the lock desktop button, one is offered to enter the user password to log back in or a button to start a new session. In an education lab situation this is a nightmare because several students can end up with several sessions running on several terminals (we use thin clients). Thus draining the resources of the server. There is no way to log out a user directly (which would be much desired), or even for the user to log himself in (or out) if several other users have used the desktop lock feature as each person has to be logged out sequentially. Thus if A, B and C have locked their desktop there is no way for A to log out (or in to his previous session) unless C and B log out and in that order. It would be useful if the locked desktop displayed all previous locks and allowed any of the users to log in to a previous session or log himself out directly. Thanks Eddie
Subject: Re: New: new session button on desktop lock login you do _not_ need to log out sequentially. you can switch the active session (virtual terminal) with alt-ctrl-F{7,8,9,...} at any time. i've already added a confirmation box which says this before starting the new session. also, you can simply turn off the feature by removing the reserve display specifications from $KDEDIR/share/config/kdm/Xservers. a proper feedback system, etc. is planned for kde 3.2. note that only suse has this feature in kde 3.0.3; otherwise it's only in kde 3.1.
