Version: 1.1.3 (using KDE 3.0.4) Installed from: SuSE Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-4GB Currently, Konsole has a menu entry "Save settings" which is needed to actually save the changes in configuration. This is not consistent with most KDE applications which save settings as soon as the OK button is clicked in the configuration dialog. I know Konsole is a bit special among ordinary KDE apps, but I think this is a usability issue that should be thought of... Thanks for your attention!
How do you suggest to differ between "change settings of current session" and "change defaults for sessions"?
Subject: Re: Why a menu entry to save settings? That is why I said that Konsole was a bit special compared with ordinary applications. With an office-oriented application, I would have said it is almost a bug. With Konsole it is not so obvious, I agree. Anyway, I watched my users frequently, and several complained that Konsole never kept their settings. They had never seen the menu entry "Save settings" because they didn't expect it. It was obvious for them that once you configure something and click OK, it is saved, if I can say so. You could say that the distinction you make between "change settings of current session" and "change defaults for sessions" is irrelevant, from their point of view. I'm just reporting what I saw from users. Most of them set them Konsole always the same way, so changes just for one session do not interest them. If you really want to keep things as they are, here is a little suggestion: extend the configuration dialog box so that it has all the options the menu has. This way, changes made directly in the menu are temporary and changes made in the dialog box are permanent. Maybe I should launch the discussion in kde-usability? What do you think of it? Perhaps renaming to "Save as Default" or "Save as Default Settings" would help?
Yes, it would be all right. I think the best thing would be to do that, in addition to my previous suggestion: changes made in the configuration window are saved as default automatically, changes made in the menu are not saved automatically (and you need your "Save as default" entry to save them).
It's now called "Save as Default" and changes made with "Configure Konsole..." are already always saved (as default).
