Description himself 2002-09-07 23:00:05 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kword
Version: 1.1.1 (using KDE 3.0.2 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18-64GB-SMP
OS/Compiler notes:

Microshit was correct to index their help files. That is the best way to find information. For any purpose other that an ordinary letter - the envelope for example - I'm forced to boot into windows to use Word. Until KWord is as friendly as Word I suspect this will be a common complaint. As I said envelope formats prooved to be impossible.

himself@cathouse.tc, can you go into more detail about what you need in terms
of the help file contents and the envelope formats?

If nothing within 2 weeks, I vote for marking INVALID.

You make no sense. An index is an index. Any one who has ever used one knows
what it is. An index should not be designed to meet my needs or your's. As much
as possible, it should meet everybody's needs.

For the second point, envelopes are just one example. All word processors have
a generic similarity. If you want people (preferably a lot of people) to use
your word processor, it must not be too different from the mainstream. No
matter how clever it is, if it takes too long to learn to use it, if the
instructions are not well written (AND INDEXED) few will bother. Re envelopes,
available document templates should include a full range of the documents and
sizes used in all major countries.

The previous answer was not from a KWord developer.
This is a KWord developer speaking now:

I am reassigning your request for an index in KDE documentation to the "docs" package so
that it goes to the documentation writers.

As to envelopes, KWord can print them just fine, if you know how :)
Measure your envelope, go to "Page Format...", set a custom paper format,
enter the width and height of the envelope, click OK.
Then create two text frames, for both addresses, and type them there. Print.

Indexes are currently being implemented in CVS for KDE documentation, and you
will see them in the next major release.
