(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: konqueror
Version: 3.0.2 (using KDE 3.0.2 )
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Not Specified
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

I've been developing a motor-control app for LEAF/Bering. In the course of that process I had to look up places for where to put which
files in accordance with the FHS pretty extensively.

Now at some point it came to me that it would be nice if I could browse the FHS in Konqueror and navigate around in it using the tree view in the navigation panel.

I've been googling around a bit to see if there was anything like that available already but I haven't been able to find anything that fits the bill.

So I'm wondering if I have actually come up with an original idea? ;)

From a usage point of view what I'm proposing is really very simple:

With kfm open at some location in the filesystem at the click of a buttom in the toolbar:

Either; the panel showing the contents of that location changes to an html page with the FHS specification for that location

or; A new panel opens up with that information.

and that upon subsequent navigation around in the filesystemthe 'FHS-description' should follow.

(I hope the above description is clear?)

I have no idea about the complexity of implementing this thing but I have a 'hunch' that it really shouldn't be all that difficult (?)

I do however have a feeling that such a feature could be of great use and that it could potentially:

Help Linux-newbies to faster and more easily getting acquainted with the purpose/use of the various parts as well as the general structure of the filesystem

Help aspiring programmers (such as myself) to better understand where to put stuff.

All reports about file management mode reported against KDE 3 (konqueror) has been closed: konqueror in KDE 3 is no more developed and mantained. All bugs and wishes which could be interesting for Dolphin in KDE 4 (the new KDE file manager) has been collected into a specific list.

Please try the new file manager before request new features and report bugs.

Before submitting new reports check carefully the already opened KDE/Dolphin reports in order to don't add duplicates.

Many thanks.
