(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kicker Version: KDE 3.0.0 Severity: normal Installed from: RedHat RPMs Compiler: gcc 2.9.6 OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: RedHat 7.3 distribution I upgraded from RedHat 7.2 to 7.3 which took KDE from 2.something to 3.0.0.-10. After rebooting the Lock/Logout Applet was gone from the taskbar. So I re-added it and at first it works as expected. However after a while (two or three days) I can click the Lock-Button and nothing happens. The Logout-Button still works but I cannot lock my screen anymore. If I logout completely (back to RedHat's graphical login page) and login again then it works again for a couple of days. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
Meanwhile I have found that the cause for the screen locker not working is that the process /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock is sometimes not terminated when I unlock the screen. And when that process still runs it is not possible to lock the screen again. Killing the process manually remedies the problem. Ulrich -- Ulrich Mayring DENIC eG Systementwicklung
