Description ulim 2002-07-30 13:28:46 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kicker
Version: KDE 3.0.0
Severity: normal
Installed from: RedHat RPMs
Compiler: gcc 2.9.6
OS: Linux
OS/Compiler notes: RedHat 7.3 distribution

I upgraded from RedHat 7.2 to 7.3 which took KDE from 2.something to 3.0.0.-10. After rebooting the Lock/Logout Applet was gone from the taskbar. So I re-added it and at first it works as expected. However after a while (two or three days) I can click the Lock-Button and nothing happens. The Logout-Button still works but I cannot lock my screen anymore. If I logout completely (back to RedHat's graphical login page) and login again then it works again for a couple of days.

Meanwhile I have found that the cause for the screen locker not working
is that the process /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock is sometimes not terminated
when I unlock the screen. And when that process still runs it is not
possible to lock the screen again. Killing the process manually remedies
the problem.

Upgraded to KDE 3.4 from 3.3.2 Suse 9.1 Pro - screen locker crashes immediately or will show the screensaver for a while - as soon as click on screensaver to unlock - crashes again
