(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kwin Version: KDE 3.0.0 Severity: normal Installed from: SuSE RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified When using SNiFF+ (a proprietary development suite incl. an editor repository...) new windows do not get to the front but are hidden by the main window. kdebase-2.1.1 did not have this problem. I did not test with other kde versions except 2.1.1 and 3.0. AFAIK SNiFF+ is written using a rather uncommon Toolkit form the ETH Zürich which probably does some strange things. (I experiences similar problems with JAVA applications in the past) (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)

Hello Martin A similar bug report is perhaps already filled (sorry I write this in a hurry no time to check). It's a known issue and is related to Matthias Ettrich's new mechanism that denies new popped windows to steal focus from a window on which the user is active (typing). The mecanism was misbehaving with gimp sniff+ etc. but if I remember correctly Matthias already provided a correction. Please try with a current CVS and if the issue is solved close this bug report (I don't have SnIFF+).
