Description stoledo 2002-04-29 06:55:50 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package:           kword
Version:           1.2 beta 1 (using KDE 3.0.0 )
Severity:          normal
Installed from:    RedHat RPMs
Compiler:          g++ --version ==> 2.96
OS:                Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

Whenever I try to start up a KOffice application (including kword kspread etc) I get a message:
Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy

This is for a KOffice 1.2 beta 1 that I installed from sources into a nonstandard location (~/Trials/koffice) using ./configure --prefix=...

But the same thing happened when I installed the mandrake RPM's.

My system is a redhat 7.2 with KDE 3.0 installed from redhat RPM's.

That warning itself is harmless but it means the app doesn't start up at
all for another reason - most often an installation problem.

That's fine but you need to tell KDE about this dir.
Edit /etc/kderc or set KDEDIRS see details in http://www.koffice.org/install-source.phtml

On a RedHat system ... no doubt it doesn't work I think ;)

Ok closing.

Heh that was only meant as an answer to "I tried installing Mandrake RPMS" ;)

Thanks David works like a charm now (even on a RedHat system :-)

The bidi support works very well (as it does now in kmail konqueror and to a
significant extent also in korganizer). I will report some bugs/wishes in the
near future as I encounter them.

I have the same problems with RedHat 8.0 trying to use Koffice. I downloaded
your script and have attached the output. some of my users would be very happy
if a solution could be found.

$ cat /etc/redhat-release; /tmp/flappa.sh
Red Hat Linux release 8.0 (Psyche)

Now looking by filename

Looking under applnk dir: /mn/marduk/drift-u1/terjekv/.kde/share/applnk-redhat/
Looking under applnk dir: /var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/
***** Native mimetype not found !
/mn/marduk/drift-u1/terjekv/.kde/share/applnk-redhat/
/var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/

Service Types dir /mn/marduk/drift-u1/terjekv/.kde/share/servicetypes/
Service Types dir /usr/share/servicetypes/
Found /usr/share/servicetypes/kofficepart.desktop
[PropertyDef::X-KDE-NativeMimeType]

Once again: this is a _RedHat_ packaging bug, you should be bugging them instead
of us. But I can give a hand so that we finally know the fix (someone mentionned
it, but not on bugs.kde.org, so I forgot it now).

Where's your kword.desktop file?
Of course the fix is to tell KDE about the dir where it is - or to copy
all the .desktop files from KOffice into /var/lib/menu/kde/Application

Any /usr/share/applnk/ maybe?

my apologies for bugging you instead of RedHat. I've tried bugging them a few
times without getting any help whatsoever. and thank for for the very swift reply!

$ locate kword.desktop
/usr/share/applications/kword.desktop
/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-kword.desktop
/usr/share/services/kprkword.desktop

the only things in /usr/share/applnk/ are:

$ ls /usr/share/applnk/
Multimedia  Settings

somewhere along the line consistency seems have left the building. the best
advice I could get from searching RedHats bugzilla was from than@redhat.com:

# please try to download kde 3.1.1 and koffice-1.2.1 from ftp.kde.org. It should
# fix this problem

<url: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=86479 >, that comment
closed the bug.

of course, grabbing the KDE-created builds will break BlueCurve and probably
other things that our users have been getting used to over the last three weeks
since we had to upgrade to RedHat 8.0. sigh. anyhow, thank you for great
products, it's just extremly frustrating that distributions feel the need to
break it for you.

That's the one, assuming it has the X-KDE-NativeMimeType line in it.
Try copying it to /var/lib/menu/kde/Applications/, that should fix it for KWord.
(If it does, you might want to copy all the .desktop files for koffice apps)

Hmm, not if you only upgrade KOffice, keeping kdelibs & kdebase unchanged.
But more .desktop file problems will appear then, I think (e.g. KOffice not
appearing in the menus anymore, unless you move files around again....)

Indeed.

Comment 8 Terje Kvernes 2003-04-25 11:24:10 UTC
thank you! I symlinked over some of the Koffice-related .desktop-files (kword,
kspread, kpresenter and kontour so far) and it works. well, kword decided to
segfault for some reason after closing koshell, but I'll debug that later.
again, thank you!

I'm guessing I'll have one very happy user after rdist has done its job. :-)
