Description Doug 2020-01-22 20:46:26 UTC
SUMMARY
Discover is freezing while updating packages. This has happened every time I have tried to update with Discover over the past couple weeks on two different computers when launching Discover from the notification tray. I can let it go several minutes and it will still stay frozen, but when I went to get a screenshot of it for this bug report it suddenly went. No problem updating from the command line. If I check for updates when there are none it works fine.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Wait for updates to come through
2. click on notification icon to launch Discover
3. Wait

OBSERVED RESULT
Discover freezes with the progress bar at about 90%. Total update size does show up at top of window.

EXPECTED RESULT
Tasty updates installed in a timely manner

Does the app's user interface actually freeze, or are things still interactive while the process appears stuck at 90%?

Another update came through, so I was able to try again. The app's user
interface did not actually freeze. I could click on "Applications" in the
sidebar and look at applications. When I clicked on "Update" in the
sidebar, it went back to the update page, while still at least appearing
stuck. Again, I tried to take a screenshot with Spectacle, and the process
immediately unfroze and revealed the updates. I did get this weird
screenshot with multiple layers transparent over each other. Don't know if
that means anything, though.

Sounds like the progress indicator is just not working as well as it should be.
Comment 4 Eggert Ehmke 2021-03-11 12:18:53 UTC
I can confirm the issue for Discover 5.21.2, KDE Neon 5.21.2. The progress bar stucks at 49%, but the updates seem to continue in the background. After some minutes with no updates, it shows "Up to date".
