The problem is that using kprinter on the command line you could feed a lot a file formats different from PS. These other formats will then be converted to PS by the spooler but I can't interact with the spooler in its processing pipe to perform a preview. Once the file is sent to the spooler you can't do anything else. When used from KDE applications the data sent to the spooler is PS (at least in 99%) so I can safely invoke the kghostview component to view it but this is done before sending the data to the spooler. When using kprinter you could imagine to "preview" the file to print using the component registered for the file format (for example kwrite if it's text) but this would not correspond to a real "preview" in the sense it will look like the print result. That's why I disabled the preview in kprinter utility. Hi! I understand that kprinter called from the command line can not have the s= ame=20 functionality (preview). IMHO this should be mentioned in the documentation. BTW I just realized that a HELP button for calling the excellent print=20 handbook is missing in the print dialog. --=20 cu ferdinand http://www.goesing.at

A job for Kurt? :-) > BTW I just realized that a HELP button for calling the excellent print > handbook is missing in the print dialog. This is planned but not implemented yet. With the imminent release I don't want to break anything it will be for 3.1 probably. At this moment you can access it from the help tab in KControl.
