Description brooked 2002-02-27 13:26:05 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package:           dcopserver
Version:           KDE 2.9.2
Severity:          normal
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources
Compiler:          gcc 2.95.3
OS:                Linux
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

KDE3 startup fails when trying to startup interprocess communications.

System runs SuSE 7.2 pro
kernel is 2.4.4-4GB
XFree86 version 4.2.0
gcc 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)

I've had the same fault with each of the follow sources of kde3
kde3-2.92-7 rpm downloaded from SuSE ftp
kde-3.0beta2 source from ftp.download.kde.org
kde 20020224 cvs snapshot

Each have given the same error messages in .xsession-errors I've also checked the
other system log files but nothing looks relevant to the problem - kdm.log only
shows xserver related messages nothing related to kde!

.xsession-errors contains the following :-

kdeinit: Launched DCOPServer pid = 12355 result = 0
QObject::connect: No such slot QObject::newClient(int)
QObject::connect:  (sender name:   'unnamed')
QObject::connect:  (receiver name: 'unnamed')
QObject::connect: No such slot QObject::slotTerminate()
QObject::connect:  (sender name:   'unnamed')
QObject::connect:  (receiver name: 'unnamed')
QObject::connect: No such slot QObject::slotCleanDeadConnections()

QObject::connect:  (receiver name: 'unnamed')

I received information from P J Sauter (many thanks!) who had exactly the same
problem on SuSE Linux 7.3 Professional after doing some depedancy checks on
the variuos components of the SuSE KDE3 packages he discovered libfam was
unsatisfied. It was resolved by installing the fam-2.6.7-6.i386.rpm
