(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kmail Version: 1.3.2 (using KDE 2.2.2 ) Severity: normal Installed from: RedHat RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Linux OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified I regularly get jokes forwarded to me from PC'ers as attachments (that you Outlook Express). If I try to print these I find that only the original mail message which is trivial is printed. KDEMail does not have a print button on the atttachment window. In general printing leaves a bit to be desired as the KMail Icon is quite often clipped off the top of the paper too. (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
I get the same still in KMail 1.4.3/KDE 3.0.4. Really quite annoying.
What they may be refering to was that printing does not work (right click) if a received mail was forwarded as an attachment. The window opens showing the attached mail but the mail which is printed is totally different. Why is it not possible to move the attached mail into a folder?
Replaced johnrcox@mac.com with gaute@verdsveven.com due to bounces by reporter
Confirming situation for 3.5.9 KDE-PIM (KMail 1.9.9). Also rebranding this as a bug because this report isn't about missing functionality but about application acting contrary to what user expects - and this is quite logical: when I see in main reader window some text and hit printer button I expect this - visible - text will be print. Note: printing of attachments *is* possible but user has to View it (*not* Open) in separate window and click printer button in that window.
KDE4.0.3/Kubuntu When I right click on an attachment and select "View" I get a window which doesn't have a print button at all. Only option for printing is to Open using another application. Printing the email doesn't print attachments, just an icon showing there was one.
Still reproducible on trunk r881868. Opening an attachment using "View" bears a window without print button. Printing the mail doesn't print the attachments.
to comment #2: with kmail/KDE4 I can print a forwarded (attached) mail. The "View" Menu in the right-mouse popup seems to be a kind of "debugging" tool as it only shows the content in its "over-the-wire" form - at least for e.g. an attached PDF (probably for all attachments it can not display directly). For attachments kmail can show directly (e.g. a JPG file), those are also printed with kmail/KDE4 For all other attachments, kmail itself can never display and therefore print all kinds of attached documents. Those need to be opened with an external application. As kmail does what it should in my understanding, I'll close this case. If you still find problems which you think should be solved, please attach a corresponding mail to test with and reopen this issue.
