(Forwarding debian https://bugs.debian.org/811165) I read on the manual page for kdeinit5: ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES $HOME Specifies the home directory of the current user $KDE_HOME_READONLY Specifies if the home directory of the current user is read only $KDE_IS_PRELINKED If set, tells kdeinit5 that the KDE programs are pre-linked. (Prelinking is a process that allows you to speed up the process of dynamic linking.) However they should be listed without the evaluation operator $ at the start. Reproducible: Always
Why?
Well, without the $ seems to be the standard way of showing environment variables in man pages. See for example bash(1), more(1), ps(1).
kinit is removed for the upcoming kf6, beside critical fixes nothing will be done in the kf5 branch.
