(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kdevelop Version: kdesdk-2.2.1 (using KDE 2.2.1 ) Severity: wishlist Installed from: FreeBSD Ports Compiler: g++ 2.95.3 OS: FreeBSD OS/Compiler notes: FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE As a new KDE developer using FreeBSD (masochistic in a sense) I found that it took me forever to "discover" kapptemplate. This is because FreeBSD does not install kapptemplate when installing kdesdk. The reason this *isn't* a FreeBSD bug is that kapptemplate isn't really meant to be installed by root--rather it works best when installed as the developer (e.g. it refers to $HOME during the installation). Because I already had kdesdk installed and because kapptemplate wasn't installed it took me forever to discover that kapptemplate even existed. The same goes for the example kless. It'd be nice if this situation could be remedied by documenting it somewhere. If it is documented somewhere please forgive me--what's the URL? By the way I don't think that I'm the only one who was clueless--I found a couple of FreeBSD related bugs in kapptemplate and I submitted patches--proof that few others "had passed that way" in quite a while. Thanks and great job on KDE! (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
afaik KApptemplate is pretty dead, but you can use the KDevelop templates even outside KDevelop, they are actively maintained (parts/appwizard)
A GUI is in making and will be included in KDE 4.1 allowing KAppTemplate to have a proper entry in the K menu! Currently in trunk/playground/devtools, will be moved to kdereview and to kdesdk in the next weeks.
