(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: konqueror Version: Unbekannt (using KDE 2.2.1 ) Severity: normal Installed from: compiled sources Compiler: gcc 2.95.3 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.11 OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified Hi my monitor just died yesterday soi I am using an old 14" screen with 8000x600 size. And I just noted that the konqueror preferences dialog has a false width. KDE was always usable at 800x600 screen size. But the konqueror setuip dialog (started from the menu) is much wider than 800. And there is absolutly no need to be that wide at least not here with German translation. All widgets would fit in 500. The reason could be the length of the homepage URL field widget but I doubt it. Would be great if this could be fixed for 2.2.2 (Submitted via bugs.kde.org) (Called from KBugReport dialog. Fields Compiler manually changed)
Still too wide in KDE-3.1b1 (at least with German translations).
Hmm, looks fine in English here with 3.1rc6. Moritz, is it still a problem for you with .de?
I get the following size with German translations: xwininfo: Window id: 0x2400002 "Einstellungen - KDE-Kontrollbereich" Width: 1195 Height: 575 Depth: 24 Corners: +133+205 -72+205 -72-270 +133-270 -geometry 1195x575-68+176 The size is horrible and well above the 800 allowed even though I use small fonts.
Usually, you should be able to resize the dialog. If it is smaller than the contents, you should see scoll bars. Just make sure you use a KDE 3.x version :) Does that work? Timo
No, it does not work with KDE-3.1 (SuSE rpms), the size is as always much too wide for the content, using the German translation. The dialog can not be resized at all.
Still present in KDE-CVS-2003-6-3. Could this be a bug with translations?
Is noone seeing this but me? It looks like crap and is still not fixed. I have seen this on all machines (Debian and SuSE). Situation unchanged in KDE-CVS 2003-07-29
OK, I noticed why this bug got no attention. The bug is only present in the configuration menu from Konqueror, not in the kcm modules. It is still looking very bad, though. Maybe some Konqueror developer can fix it?
Still not fixed. The German configure dialog of konqueror sucks donkey balls. This looks horrible and will immediately disqualify konqueror for normal end users.
Why was this bug moved to kcontrol? I mean the konqueror preferences dialog you get from the konqueror menue, not the (well-behaved) kcontrol module. Are you sure, kcontrol is the source of this bug? I don't think so....
it's the same dialog. and it's kcmkonq
The minimum width for this dialog is over 1024 bytes in my KDE-3.2cvs!!!! I have locale set to German. This looks like shit. Could someone have a look? I guess it is just one kcmmodule which reserves too much space.
I can confirm that the bug still exists in KDE 3.4 Beta 2. (German Locals + Verdana 10pt + 14" TFT) The dialogs are to wide - both when accessing the dialog through Kcontrol and when accessing the dialog directly from Konqueror. Especially the "Stylesheet" dialog is to wide for 1024x768. Additionally the "Web Shortcuts" dialog gets too wide because the "default search engine"-drop down box is as wide as the string "Great Dictionary of the Catalan language (GRan Enciclopedia Catalana)". Please don't force the users to use 10pt Arial Narrow! ;-) The "file association" dialog is a bit wide, too.
Problem still exists in KDE 3.4rc1 Funny: When the bug was opened, the reporter had written: "Would be great if this could be fixed for 2.2.2"
The bug is still present even in KDE4 SVN Revision 737080. Just reported this: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152374
In KDE 3.5.8 the bug is fixed. This issue should be closed and the http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=152374 should be fixed.
Closing as per Comment #16.
