Copy files from a an external USB hard drive to the local hard drive only some of the files were copied. This is reproducible. Using a cp -R from the command line copied all of the files (no problems), but using Dolphin only 811 out of 1076 files were copied. When attempting to reproduce the problem in Dolphin 897 out of 1076 files were copied. The problem seems inconsistent and when using older versions of Dolhin this problem doesn't seem to exist; just since moving to Kubuntu 14.04 has this problem appeared. Using meld to compare directory trees the files that were copied seem to have been copied correctly just the copy failed to completely copy all files. This is a major problem and makes Dolpin unreliable for the simplest of functions. There use to be a way to switch Dolphin to using low level system copy instead of internal copy/move but I can no longer find that option -- this would be nice if the option was readily available when such problems arise. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Used Dolphin to copy files 2. Copy failed to complete correctly 3. Changed locations tried again 4. Failed again to get a complete copy 5. Removed data and used low level command line cp -R 6. Copied successfully data complete and intact then repeated again no problems 7. Attempted using Dolphin and again got an incomplete copy 8. Dolphin has not had such an option since I started using it. Dolphin always uses KIO to copy/move files, so the problem might be in KIO or the kioslaves. I assume that you have checked already that you have read permissions for all files, and that there is sufficient space on the destination partition?

Yes, I made sure I had space. As I mentioned in the steps I tried using Dolphin then did it using the command line cp -R: cp worked fine and complete while Dolphin only copied some of the files. The drive had 800gb+ free at time of the test, as it was a new install and I was restoring data from a backup. And sorry you're right it wasn't Dolphin it was notifications that was dropping data and could be switched off.
I assume the USB hard drive is mounted locally, correct? What is the filesystem on the USB hard drive? Do you see anything different about the files that were not copied vs those that were?

Mount returns: "/dev/sdg1 on /media/****/OneTouch4 type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,default_permissions,blksize=4096)" I can see no logic or reason to how its deciding which files to copy and which not to. Also, its inconsistent in how many each time I tried copying the data. The only reliable way was to copy from the command line. Those that it copied the the first time would sometimes be skipped during the next attempt and file permissions were consistent as was the rest like user, group, and so on. Size may have been a factor because I noticed the larger files were left off more often but I'm not positive that that was consistent either. Sorry for the late reply.
