Ubuntu backports repositories are defined as NotAutomatic for upgrades. What this means is that if someone doesn't have a package from backports installed, they should not automatically be offered an upgrade from backports. Once they have manually selected installation from backports for a package though, later updates should be automatically offered. This is significant because, due to NotAutomatic, backports is enabled by default for new installs for several years. The specific case is I just got offered opendmarc 1.2.0 as an upgrade from 1.1.3 on 13.10, where it should not have been offered: $ rmadison muon muon | 1.3.1-0ubuntu2 | precise | source, amd64, armel, armhf, i386, powerpc muon | 1.4.1-0ubuntu1 | quantal/universe | source, amd64, armel, armhf, i386, powerpc muon | 1.4.1-0ubuntu1.1 | quantal-updates/universe | source, amd64, armel, armhf, i386, powerpc muon | 2.0.65+git20131008-0ubuntu4 | saucy/universe | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, powerpc muon | 2.1.3-0ubuntu0.2 | saucy-updates/universe | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, powerpc muon | 2.1.70-0ubuntu3 | trusty/universe | source, amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, powerpc, ppc64el I'm not sure how long this has been going on, but this worked at one point. Reproducible: Always
Can't reproduce. If you look at opendmarc in muon (the package manager) does it offer it as upgradable? what versions does it list as installed and available on the technical details tab? what versions does it list in the versions tab?
