I upgraded to Kubuntu 13.10 this morning, everything run trough, no errors raisad. Since reboot my plasma-desktop keeps crashing every 5 minutes (exactly every 5 minutes and really every 5 minutes). I checked crontabs, no suspucius job that runs in this interval. When plasma-desktop crashes, the taskbar at the bottom of the screen disappears for some seconds and is started again automatically after some seconds. This is apport.log, crashes at 11:48, 11:53, 11:58, 12:03, 12:08 ... Thanks for the update. From looking at the backtrace, you are dragging something (or clicking on something while slightly moving the mouse). Can you remember what or where you dragged?
Thanks Christoph for looking into this. The crash happens even when I do absolutely nothing, no typing, not moving or dragging anything, not using the mouse or keyboard at all. Every 5 minutes the bottom controlbar disappears (same as when you stop plasma-desktop) and appears again when plasma-desktop is automatically started again.
If Plasma crashes without doing anything, try to catch more backtraces. With luck, we find one that does not contain traces of mouse dragging. From the previous backtrace this would be bug 326140.
Let me guess: You have setup a "slideshow" wallpaper with a change interval of 5 minutes, but only have a single wallpaper in the list? See bug 323901.
Confirmed. I rotate wallpapers every 5 minutes (actual image is updated by a script) and there is only one image in the directory. Thanks for pointing me to bug 323901 Christoph, I'll mark this bug as a duplicate of 323901.
