After starting muon updater, clicking the lower left option button ("Mehr..." in the German version) and clicking the check for updates entry ("Auf Aktualisierungen prüfen"), nothing happens, as if this function is disabled, rendering the updater useless.

CTRL-R also doesn't do anything, so I guess it's nothing UI-related

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open muon-updater
2. Click menu button, choose check for updates
3. Disappointment
Actual Results:  
No check for updates

Expected Results:  
Check for updates

So I guess not an UI problem...

I can confirm that. Started right after update to Kubuntu 13.10.

Muon Update Manager Version 2.1.0 Using KDE Develpment Platform 4.11.2
on Kubuntu 13.10, Linux 3.11.0-12-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 9 16:12:00 UTC 2013 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux
