Description Nikola Schnelle 2013-09-29 14:08:15 UTC
Plasma-nm doesn't connect to wifi network automaticaly on startup (automatically connect checked). Instead it prompts for password. https://launchpadlibrarian.net/151657490/snapshot1.png

It also seems to freeze splash screen during the boot-up for a few seconds.

If I remove plasma-nm and install old plasma-widget-networkmanagement applet, freeze on splash screen is gone and I am automatically connected to my wifi network.

This happens on Kubuntu 13.10 beta2.

Reproducible: Always

I can confirm your problem, but still didn't find any solution. It's weird, because this doesn't happen (probably) in other distributions, at least it works for me in Fedora. The only potentional problem I can see is older NetworkManager, the latest version in Kubuntu is 0.9.8.0 (with some patches), but actual version is 0.9.8.4 which is the second bug fix release since 0.9.8.0.

I don't know if this is relevant, but after suspending and waking up my laptop few times, plasma-nm looks weird (screenshot attached).

All the wlan0 "unknown connections" in plasma-nm are in fact the same ethernet connetion. And plasma-nm doesnt show my active wifi connection. Again, after switching to old nm applet, everything looks as it should.

Hmm, this is really weird. Did you try to use the old nm applet with suspending? I suspend my ntb every day and plasma-nm works without any problem, but I use Fedora (and here we have always the latest version of NetworkManager).

Old nm applet looks and works fine after suspending.

I have tried to compile and install latest NetworkManager but I ended up with broken networking (I am not very experienced in compiling stuff). Also I couldn't find ppa with latest NetworkManager packages, so I cannot test plasma-nm with latest NM :(

Fixed with the latest version of NetworkManager.
