Description David Monniaux 2001-09-08 14:13:03 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package:           konsole
Version:           KDE 2.2.0
Severity:          normal
Installed from:    RedHat RPMs
Compiler:          Not Specified
OS:                Linux
OS/Compiler notes: XFree86 4.1.0

In most X applications including KDE applications and xterm the following features allow inputting European diacritic signs:
* Certains keysyms are called "dead" and are used as follows: dead_circumflex e gives ê (e with circumflex accent).
* Many symbols can be obtained by the key sequence: Multi_key x y where x and y are symbols. Example: Multi_key ' e = é (e with acute accent).
On Sun keyboards Multi_key is bound to the "Compose" key on PCs to one of the Windows keys.

These features work in all KDE applications but not in konsole. konsole:
* Treats dead_circumflex as normal circumflex.
* Ignores Compose.

As some of you already assumed this is a Qt and more specific a RedHat bug:

They applied patch qt-2.3.1-xim-20010617.diff for japanese users to Qt which
breaks dead keys for all other (great RedHat!). Bero says it is fixed with
KDE 3.0/Qt 3 - the fix for KDE 2.2.2 is to compile Qt from source yourself.
