Description Karthik Periagaram 2013-06-16 03:04:20 UTC
This is a wishlist for the scrollbar mini-map feature in katepart.

The scrollbar mini-map is currently middle-aligned. This wishlist is to have it aligned to the top.

The mini-map currently works extremely well for long files with a lot of text in it. However, for short text files, it behaves a bit counter-intuitively. Imagine deleting a bunch of text from the bottom of a long file. The scrollbar mini-map starts shrinking from both ends and coverges to the center of the scrollbar. Conversely, imaging adding a lot of text to a file. The mini-map expands from the center of the scrollbar in both directions and fills the length of the scrollbar.

The problem with this is that the file is growing or shrinking at the end, but the mini-map is growing/shrinking at the middle.

Now, consider the scrollbar mini-map aligned to the top of the scrollbar. Adding lines of text causes the scrollbar to fill up from the top, removing it will cause it to shrink to the top, just like the file.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable scrollbar minimap.
2. Open a short text file.
3. Add/remove lines to it.
Actual Results:
The mini-map shows up at the middle of the scrollbar. Increasing the amount of text in the file causes the mini-map to grow in both directions.

Expected Results:
The mini-map should show up at the top of the scrollbar and expand/contract downwards as the file grows/shrinks.

I'm using the latest archlinux packages for KDE Platform/kwrite/kate version 4.10.4 with Editor Component version 3.7. None of these version numbers are available in the dropdown menu, so I left it as unspecified. (Incidentally, I realize this could be a packaging problem in arch and the editor component version should really say 3.10.4, instead of 3.7...)
