I won't know either unless you send me your ~/.xsession-errors (saving it after trying
to start KDE) or look into it to find what the problem is.
(You have to use a login manager for that xdm or kdm not startx).

The problem isn't restricted to startup. If I enable antialiasing during a
session from Control Panel press Apply and let the system redraw some
windows all NEW applications using QT and/or(?) KDE stop starting (obviously
they are the only ones using antialiasing).

For example Konqueror dies immediately in startup without any error messages
on console. Those instances that have been started before switching to AA
still work fine however.

I can also switch Antialiasing back off click Apply again and everything
works as if the incident had never happened.

Removing truetype fonts doesn't help. An interesting detail is that I have -
for some reason - a non-functional XftCache-command. It crashes immediately
with a Segmentation Fault no matter the arguments. But could this have
something to do with antialiasing? I doubt it.

I don't believe this bug really only concerns kdesktop - it seems to be more
general a problem.

I'm using Debian with the latest unstable binaries. At the moment I'm in
Windows and can't provide you with the current version numbers sorry.

This was actually a bug in XFree86: the symptoms occur if there is no new
line character in the end of /etc/X11/XftConfig!

Hmm???????

Here I have a new line char in the end of /etc/X11/XftConfig!

But if my AntiAliasing = true the problem persist.
