Right click the Places panel and choose "Lock panels". The top "Places" is acutally the name of said panel, while the second one is the category name. But yes, distracting.

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

Maybe it could be possible to optionally hide all/certain category names? That would also save space.

I've noticed that as well. If you unlock the widgets you have the name "places" shown twice. Perhaps it's possible to hide the dock name...?

The problem with that approach is that you could not drag the panel then - you have to click the dock name to do that.

I've just tried this approach (removed the title of the dock) and I can drag the panel (At least with qt 4.8 installed).
But this approach doesn't look nice if you have a second dock widget (like the Information panel) on the right side which has a title.

Maybe it would be possible to find another name for the title of the places panel which tells the same but doesn't look strange as of having two places just next to each other?
Comment 11 Frank Reininghaus 2013-01-31 07:23:10 UTC
Hm, maybe the best solution is to just hide the category name 'Places'?
Comment 12 Daniel Kreuter 2013-01-31 07:33:09 UTC
What would also be possible:
Since the title in the DockWidget is hidden by default setting an empty title in all Docks would be clean?
Hiding the category name doesn't look like the ideal solution because the formatting of the title and other category names which should not be hidden would differ to much.

Another solution which comes to my mind:
Let unlocking the dock widget only work on the currently selected dock insteqd of global. This waywe could just remove the title of the places dock and keep the others.

Can't reproduce using a more recent version of Dolphin: 16.12.3 in Kubuntu 17.04 or 17.08.0 in KDE Neon

lol and it was then fixed again in 22.04, which refactored how the Places panel code works. :)

In general, please open a new bug report rather than re-opening an old one. Even if your issue looks the same, the root causes are usually different.
