Description liam caffrey 2012-04-25 01:05:00 UTC
WHAT IS WRONG: IT DOES NOT RUN.
After I started it from K menu, I clicked 'Cancel' during startup wizard, and the next time I started it, it started to start and then disappeared, after which I tried from a cli, and recieved error msgs re Dbus.
ERROR MSGS, 3 attempts:
"# kgpg
unnamed app(22625): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

unnamed app(22624): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.

# kgpg
unnamed app(23148): KUniqueApplication: Cannot find the D-Bus session server: "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."

unnamed app(23147): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly.

# kgpg

unnamed app(23187): KUniqueApplication: Pipe closed unexpectedly. "

I image I need to track down how to clean up a dbus error. Any pointers to where to start I would appreciate, but don't stress yourselves, it is part of the process of learning to maintain my system.
BUT, why does it have to 'annoy' the dbus system? Shouldn't there be a warning, something like, "If you click "Cancel" it will disrupt your dbus system! " ?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install "Siduction" on a HP Pavillion DV-5 1002nr.
2. Run Kgpg from K menu, Click "Cancel" button during second screen of startup wizard.
3. Try running Kgpg again, both from K menu and from cli.
Actual Results:
same

Try "killall kgpg" to get rid of the hanging process. Which version are you using?

Thank you for your diligence. 20 months later. I certainly could have missed an email from you.Was that during the time of debian's change to using systemd ... or was that a year later?
I only vaguely remember this. I have done several system updates since then, and everything seems ok.
