Description lub997 2012-03-18 05:17:10 UTC
Application: plasma-desktop (0.4)
KDE Platform Version: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5"
Qt Version: 4.7.4
Operating System: Linux 3.1.9-1.4-desktop x86_64
Distribution: "openSUSE 12.1 (x86_64)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: Upon logging into KDE, the screen was empty, other than an Activities tab for adding widgets, which appeared at the upper right of the screen. Since it was the only thing present on the screen, I clicked the tab. It opened up a banner full of many different widgets that could be added. scrolled from left to right in the banner, seeing what widgets it contained. I clicked the red X at the top right corner of the banner to close it. It did not close. Instead, the button with the red X remained in a pressed position, and the entire banner became unresponsive, but still remained on the screen. I right clicked the desktop to see what other options were present. A menu appeared, and I clicked Add Panel > Default Panel on the menu. Upon clicking Default Panel, the crash reporting software popped up, and the Default Panel never did appear. The crash reporting application disappeared from view after about 5 seconds, so I right-clicked the desktop again, and selected Add Panel > Default Panel again. The Default Panel still did not ever appear, but the crash reporting software came back into view, exactly as it had previously been before disappearing from view. It again disappeared from view after approximately 10 seconds or so. Upon realizing that I could continue to make it come back into view by clicking Add Panel > Default Panel, I slowly and tediously completed the crash report in that manner. This is on an x86_64 openSUSE Linux 12.1 machine with an NVidia GeForce 550 TI card, using the NVidia driver provided by NVidia through NVidia's openSUSE 12.1 area of their repository. This exact same scenario also happened with my old video chip before upgrading; it was an Intel 715gl chip. With both setups, the exact same situation happened, and is very predictable over and over again. Nothing in my KDE seems to work right.

- Unusual behavior I noticed: Nothing present on the desktop other than an add activities tab upon login; I'm normally a GNOME user, so I don't know, maybe this is normal for KDE. The activiteis banner froze and would not close and was unresponsive. Windows continued to consistently disappear from view, but still be present, just not visible.

The crash can be reproduced every time.
