It is not seen until I switch over it the the mouse cursor. It vanishes again as soon as I move the cursor awa<.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Could you check if clearing the icon cache resolves this issue?

I removed all /var/tmp/kdecache* directories - issue went away :-)
