Description Adam Porter 2011-04-15 07:02:41 UTC
Application: plasma-desktop (0.4)
KDE Platform Version: 4.6.2 (4.6.2)
Qt Version: 4.7.0
Operating System: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic i686
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
I have two launchers in the panel, next to the task list. They had somehow turned into a grouped running-task button, though neither app that the launchers are for was actually running.

I right-clicked the bogus task group button, and Plasma crashed. After Plasma restarted, the launchers were launchers again.

-- Backtrace:
Application: Plasma Desktop Shell (plasma-desktop), signal: Segmentation fault

New crash information added by DrKonqi

plasma-desktop (0.4) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.2

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
Sometimes the lauchers saved using "Show a Launcher For X when is not running" look like running taskbar windows. After a short while, I get a Plasma crash.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

plasma-desktop (0.4) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
Launchers grouped somehow to the task manager button as grouped application. After I right-clicked on that group Plasma crashed. After it has restored the launchers became launchers again.

plasma-desktop (0.4) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed: Added some app launchers to the panel, and soon after that they started behaving strangly, like some application were overlapping, and some launchers looked like they were running an app, when in reallity they waren't.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

plasma-desktop (0.4) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
I'm not sure if I actually clicked on one of the launchers on the panel, if so then likely firefox but again I'm not sure. Outside that I did not start any applications yet. The crashed happened shortly after logging in. Amarok started automatically as I did not close it in the previous session.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
Nothign except for the launchers to be suddenly grouped as they were an active window.

plasma-desktop (0.4) on KDE Platform 4.6.2 (4.6.2) using Qt 4.7.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
FireFox, Kile and Amarok where open. I closed the windows of Quanta Plus (a web dev app)

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
The unsual behavior consists of the already described situation above: lanchers are grouped into an active window.

Comment 6 Erik 2011-06-26 12:15:17 UTC
I found a pattern. This crash happens to me anytime I open Quanta Plus web development tool. The previously describe behaviour of the launcher icons occurs and right clicking on the grouped launchers causes plasma to crash. Quanta Plus seems to use KDE 3.5.10 (at least it reports that when you click on help > about Quanta) could that be the cause of this problem?
Comment 7 Erik 2011-06-28 22:09:05 UTC
Another addition: It happens too when using Krita and Kdevelop

In the ubuntu forums it has been mentioned that kde 4.7 fixes this problem. Please reopen if this bug still happens with kde 4.7
Comment 10 Erik 2011-08-03 14:42:23 UTC
Yeah I guess it was me mentioning it on Ubuntuforums. I can confirm that so far it has not happened with the applications that previously (in 4.6) caused this crash since I've upgraded to 4.7 via PPA.

Comment 12 Andrew Crouthamel 2018-09-04 19:13:11 UTC
Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
