Description Roger Larsson 2001-06-10 01:28:17 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kmail
Version: KDE 2.2.0 Alpha2
Severity: normal
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: Not Specified
OS: Not Specified
OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified

Furter testing has shown that it has nothing to do with attachments nor POP before SMTP - therefore
I open a new bug report.
It happens now and then I can see no pattern...
(I can receive mail during the time emails are stuck in the outbox!)

Comment 2 Roger Larsson 2001-06-12 12:13:23 UTC
Hi

Got another email stuck in outbox...

This time I fired up netscape and emailed to the same person.
Using the same smtp server mail1.telia.com (strangely the received
note says that netscape went throu mailb.telia.com...???)

roger@jeloin:~ > ping mail1.telia.com
PING mail.telia.com (194.22.194.231): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 194.22.194.231: icmp_seq=0 ttl=245 time=31.532 ms

roger@jeloin:~ > ping mailb.telia.com
PING mailb.telia.com (194.22.194.6): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 194.22.194.6: icmp_seq=0 ttl=245 time=29.908 ms

When x-iting the sending the following is reported:

"Sending failed:

The message will stay in the 'outbox' ...
Note: other messages will also be blocked...
The following transport protocol was used:
  smtp://mail1.telia.com:25"

It looks to me that if we fail the first time it is not really retried later.
Comment 3 Roger Larsson 2001-07-08 01:14:35 UTC
(still happens with 2.2beta1 - maybe I did not wait for long enough... but I
think so)

I have noticed that the problem happens most of the time (only?) in this
scenario:

1. Create a mail to myself but with a different name
   (i.e.) "POSK SK" <roger.larsson@norran.net>

2. Send it - it will bounce back

3. On receive it is detected by the filter: To contains ("POSK SK").
3a: transfer to: a list of people
3b: reply to: "POSK SK" <roger.larsson@norran.net>

Results in a simple mail list!

All messages send to me but with name "POSK SK"
goes to everybody on list...
replies too goes to the list :-)

But the question is - does the code deadlock?
send + moment later receive -> filter -> send to multiple

What exactely does happen? Does KMail no longer respond?
Do the failing mails remain in the outbox?

I doubt it. 29111 is due to a smtp server that has been
broken on purpose (poor thing).

27001 is due to just a plain broken smtp server that can't
accept the (old style?) smtp commands kmail gives.

Neither is a kmail bug so I close them 27001 might be
worked around once/if the smtp slave is used.

For roland:

Don't know I would just use uname() or gethostbyname().

Don.
Comment 6 rgriggs 2004-09-02 04:30:31 UTC
All my mail when i hit send goes to outbox and stays there. I can still receive e-mails... I just cannot send them.
Comment 7 Tom Albers 2004-09-02 09:31:39 UTC
please review your identity settings. If it does not contain a valid email address messages don't get send.

Please do not add comments to closed bug reports, I by accident spotted it, but normally you won't get an answer....ever...
Comment 8 S. Burmeister 2004-09-02 11:05:37 UTC
It might also be that your identity, in the advanced tab, has a special transport set that does not exist anymore.
Comment 9 r.ductor@gmail.com 2008-10-01 16:08:52 UTC
Hello!

I receive emails but i cannot send them; emails are just moved to outbox.
Send queued emails from menu does nothing.
No explicit message error.
Same behavior with two different smtp servers.
Icedove works in the same situation --thanks God.

I append some (relevant?) info; please tell me if you need more files.
